Thomas Hartmann and Don Ao fulfilled their dream to live and work in Portugal by recently opening the Bulan Maret Restaurant (moon of March). Thomas, previously the owner and Chef of Tujuh Maret in Amsterdam and Don, previously owner and chef of Tempo Doeloe in Amsterdam have created this lovely, new restaurant just 5 minutes away from Portimão on the way to Silves and Monchique. The atmosphere is unique: it feels like you are in Bali: the beautiful veranda, palm trees and the "pendopo", the tables in the garden with the rooflets, like in Indonesia. The interior is delightfully elegant and relaxed.

Chef Ao Don cooks Menadonese, rather spicy, but mild dishes as well. The lovely, exotic dishes include: Udang Madura, Grilled Prawns served with a sauce of Coconut and Macadamia nuts served with White rice and vegetables, Gulai Donba, stewed in a sauce of Coconut and Lemongrass. And not to forget: Rijsttafel Bulan Maret, the rijsttafel is presented in 2 different sizes: small and large. The most wonderful aspect of Indonesian kitchen is the enormous variety of dishes and spices.
